District Responsibilities
- Appoint a Section 504 coordinator.
- Notify the public of a school district's responsibilities under Section 504.
- Ensuring that procedural safeguards are afforded to students and their parents.
- Establishing grievance procedures (this is similar to due process hearings from IDEA).
- Conducting a self-evaluation.
- Training staff regarding disabilities under Section 504.
- Develop a child find system.
- Identification- This is done through a referral process.
- Evaluation- Schools must create a multidisciplinary team to determine if student is eligible for Section 504.
- Educational Program- Schools then provide FAPE through a Section 504 plan which has the accommodations and modifications for the student.
- Placement- Must be in the least restrictive environment.
- Reevaluation- Is done when necessary.
